Un even and unfair

Hey everybody, I just had to add my own thoughts about the "occupy wallstreet and other occupy movements and the utter shambles the US economy is in right now. I currently live in the state of Michigan and things here are the worst I've ever experianced. I currently work full-time as a Security officer in the second biggest city in the state and it does get violent sometimes. I have been kept at the same pay rate since I started in the company about 5 years ago. Despite numerous requests for a pay increase for outstanding work as well as a requirement to be bi-lingual I have been denied time and time again. The reason I was given for denial were lack of money in the company for pay raises or promotions. I found this a little un believable due to the managaer's recent purchase of a cadillac escalade. Furthermore prices for everything in this state have sky-rocketed to where the average person can no longer purchase groceries without assistance from the government. The average price for a one bedroom apartment is now $700 a month without any utilities paid by the complaex due to people not paying rent on time. So now the cost of living on your own has gone up as well. I personally make on average about $1,000 a month after taxes from my paychecks. After bills and living expenses I will keep about $250 to which is used for gas, gas as this blog is being written is about $3.99 a gallon. Now you may be saying to yourself: " If its that bad why not get a different job or move?" And yes I have asked myself that many times before, so here are my answers: In three months I have filed and written out over 150 applications and resumes to numerous job openings and vacancies and I have even requested a transfer within my company... I have had no call backs about my applications or resumes and there are no openings within the company to which I may transfer. I am a Iraq combat veteran, I hold two college degrees and studying for my third. I speak three languages and I am certfied by numerous government agencies and other law enforcement offices throughout the country. I have worked along side the secret Service, the US Marshals office and even helped protect some of the worlds most prestigous leaders yet I am unable to find other work which can pay me what I am worth. I am no being pesemistic nor have I lost any hope for something better, I am just curious to hear if things ar ethe same elsewhere. I just wanted to hear what you guys think about all this and please write in to whatever you think about this situation. thanks Chris

My frustration is the same as yours. I graduated with a degree in international affairs in 2005. My last year of school was spent in China working and studying. I returned home thinking that being fluent in Chinese would help me get a good job. The best I could do was answering phones for a construction company part-time, so I picked up a second job as a greeter at a cellphone store. I was one of the only degree people there and I was the lowest rung on the ladder making just enough money to go back and forth between jobs. I was 24 and still living at home. It was soul crushing. So I joined the Peace Corps, teaching for two years and became fluent in yet another language. I couldn't find work in the States when I returned, so I moved to Korea, where I was payed OK, but treated horribly day in and day out. When I got back to the states, sigh, I got a job at a coffee-shop. But I'm in New Zealand studying again, and hopefully something good will come of it. I had to come to New Zealand, because I don't qualify for the programs back home-they are way too competitive. I think the lowest point was going to a job agency and being told that I can take my degree up to Laconia (I'm from NH) on the weekends and sell tickets at the race track. I exercise like crazy and it's only because the gym seems to be the only place where if I work hard, I'll actually see improvements and be rewarded for all the time I put into it. Anyway, thanks for your service, our vets shouldn't be treated like that. I wish I could say for certain that some day you'll be fairly compensated, but sadly I can't. Summer will be here soon enough and there's always hotdogs and beers.
