This stuff was creepy. No cool music like in the 80s either....no....just weird beeps. I tell ya, my grandparents used to go crazy when I got up at 5am (being a hyperactive and weird child)and put this on....
I can't believe I missed this:
The test cards and talking clock (mum told me about this!) were a feature of analogue, with digital they don't need this anymore. So....there will never be a live broadcast of this again. ;) Kind of weird how I used to sit and watch this as a child though! A trivial fact is that it was also made so that people could align their CRT tv's. :)

Hmmm, that explains everything then.Good thing i arrived in the UK in 2004 or i would have gone crazy too.Our equivalent was the indian (ok, first nation peoples) wich you might have seen and served the same purpose, not that anyone new what to do with it..We also had that tv station who showed a film of an aquarium or fireplace all night long.

And a redhead at that. Cool.
Yea, one of my cable stations went out one morning and had the SMPTE bars. It's a sight that's going to get rarer and rarer.
I can remember when our public station used to do a sign off at night with the funding university's theme playing to scenes around campus. In the morning you'd get the test screen and then another clip of scenes around town with "Classical Gas."
