Possible Redhead event in N/W England, UK. JUL 2011. Thoughts please.
As the title says. Any suggestions are also welcome. The event could have run this year, but there isn't really enough time and there is not enough funding this year.
Issues:
-
The timing of the event: Late July seemed to be the best time because: it could bring more tourists to England for their Summer vacation (if informed early enough), it just avoids the hayfever season (Mar-early Jul generally), it avoids the September Roodharigendag, avoids the Derby and Grand National events & also a few other festivals around the same time. The British schools tend to start their Summer vacation just before the event will run.
-
The site: An outdoor themed event requires warmer weather. It also requires quite a large site. There are a number of public parks being 'looked at'. Some areas have larger fields, but these are quite a distance from the towns. The objective is to make it as easily attendable as possible. The public parks pose an issue as they are near to neighbourhoods, although they are along the main transport system (e.g. main roads and highways).
-
Money: There is not enough money or time to organise this event this year. However, it leaves more time to fully plan an event and make it more disaster-proof. Hopefully, the extra time will allow for more people to be informed; better assessment of possible issues and collection of more funding for 'other things'.

There seems to be a general pattern for these events, that photographs are taken at historical buildings. Although the park in mind is on a fairly good transport link, it is 3 miles away from the second venue (main town hall). The bus journey is generally straightforward, 18 minutes or so; with a walking time of 10 minutes from the central bus station. There should be 2 hours between the end of the first event and the big finale, to allow for any delays. During this time, visitors can explore the central gallery, theatre or just look around the town/shops. There could be some fun to have on the bus journey (should visitors choose to travel by public transport), as the other travelers would probably not have seen so many redheads and there could be a repeat of another event which happened in the past (the redheads on a train!). Bear in mind that each bus only holds around 60 people, so seperate group journeys may be needed. But this makes it all the more fun.

Planning and preparation: UK councils are difficult to please when it comes to event organisation and will try to find any issues with the event. I will talk through this with someone later, as I don't want to hint too much straightaway.
