CelticCurls's blog
Hey all!
I know a lot of you are wondering where the big redhead photo from Dublin, Ohio and the whole gallery are, and we're working on it! I just reminded the festival council we still don't have the official photo yet. Don't forget to share and upload your own photos too!
I decided last minute on Saturday to go to the Toronto Redhead Summit, so I'm recovering from that on top of other business. It was fun, got lots of video, photos, and stories that I need to post from it too! The duo is really amazing and despite pouring rain, they had about 150 redheads, of which I met about 20.
I should be around (other than behind-the-scenes) the site this weekend (gah, hope there's no last-minute redhead summits ). I can't wait to chat with you all and share all the fun things that have been happening.
Getting the site internationalized and ready for Roodharigendag next weekend too, languages are coming along.
See you more soon - gotta sleep.

North American Redhead Gathering - Summer 2010

Redhead World is working to create a redhead gathering in North America this summer. For the past few years, there has been a lot of demand for a large redhead gathering on this side of the Atlantic for those who can't make the trip to Roodharigendag in the Netherlands.
So, Redhead World is going to dive in with a large gathering, possibly 2,000 or more redheads. We've been in talks with a midwest Celtic festival for several months now. We haven't quite made all the arrangements official yet, so we can't reveal the particular festival or location just yet. The festival council has met to consider our ideas though, and given it an enthusiastic "go." We want to give all of you a "heads up" so you could start planning travel plans.
The event will take place in the United States' midwest region on the weekend of August 8, 2010 with the redhead events currently planned for that day. In addition to a massive redhead gathering and photoshoot, there will be a redhead contest. Redhead World will also have a small information tent set up at the festival so you can stop by to meet me, CelticCurls, and other member volunteers and maybe meet some other redheads in the days leading up to Sunday's big event.
A redhead documentarian whose team is doing a documentary on redheads is attending. They will be filming the various redhead events and conducting some interviews.
We hope to release official details very soon, however, Redhead World needs your help!
Our sponsorship of this Celtic festival alone will be quite a substantial fee ($5,000), but it does buy us a lot. Based on the festival's annual reports' attendance figures, we expect over 2,000 redheads to be attending the festival each day - we hope most of them will attend our photoshoot. We also get everything that goes along with one of the best-planned and largest Celtic festivals in the world: many food vendors on hand, lots of shopping, insurance, police/security, first aid, transportation, parking, and several stages and exhibits of the best Celtic music and entertainment.
So, please, please, help make our redhead gathering possible. We have just launched a sponsorship page where you can sponsor us for as little as $10. We would only need 600 people to buy a $10 sponsorship to make our goal of $6,000 to cover our expenses. Please help us as much as you can; as a new website, we simply don't have enough money to cover all of the costs.
We'll be publishing a list of ways you can help spread the word in the coming days too, please help however you can!

The MythBusters pain episode featuring redheads that everyone has been waiting for is tonight, April 28, 2010 (in the U.S. at least).
In early January we reported that Adam Savage was making a call for redhead test volunteers for the show via his Twitter channel. We got the word out quickly enough that a couple of our members were able to apply, and so you just might see our own MissyMarie on tonight's program.
BoltZero and others did more research and found that the episode would revolve around pain. Do redheads feel more? Women or men? Can cursing help ease the pain? All of that will be found on tonight's episode.
Here are some preview clips:
See the Kari Byron Swear Pain Test at the Discovery Channel site.
UPDATE #1: User OmniTomato was spotted. Here he is with Jamie Hyneman while Adam Savage works the computers. They used ice water to test the myths.

Just one week after the Great British Redhead Festival, a PR firm for the new short film, Chasing Cotards, is hosting a ginger flashmob this coming weekend. It's an exciting week for redheads in the United Kingdom!
London Ginger Flashmob
April 17, 2010 - 3:00pm-3:30pm BDT (GMT+1)
London, England, United Kingdom
Meeting at The Betjeman Arms at 3 and heading to graveyard.
The Betjeman Arms, Unit 53, St. Pancras International Station, King's Cross London NW1 2QR
Wear white clothes!
The redheads will meet at the Betjeman Arms pub at 3pm first:
The Betjeman Arms Pub
Unit 53, St. Pancras International Station, King's Cross London NW1 2QR
.
Then, once gathered, the group of gingers will walk to the graveyard of the St Pancras Old Church and Gardens, one of the oldest churches in Britain. There, the mob will haunt the graveyard. The address is:
St Pancras Old Church and Gardens, Pancras Road, NW1 1UL
There will be plenty of media photographers of national and local newspapers and magazines on hand documenting the event. Afterwards, most will probably return to the pub for socializing and a drink.
You might be wondering: why redheads haunting a graveyard in morbid fashion? Well, the new movie deals with a man who is haunted by the portrait of his deceased, beautiful redhead wife who left him much too soon. He apparently tries to commit suicide and believes that he is dead. You can see the trailer and read more about the film at their website:
http://www.chasingcotards.com/
Chasing Cotards will premiere at the London's BFI IMAX cinema on Saturday, May 8th, 2010. With 3 years of work, a huge production team and excellent cast, it looks to be quite a film.
The mob of redheads will no doubt almost rival the beauty of lead actress, Olivia Grant, pictured above. Further contact information for the Ginger Flashmob can be found at their page on Facebook:

We reported earlier about the TMZ "Ravishing Redheads" photo contest. The results are in!
TMZ released the 177 entries and put them up for voting. You can see all the entries here. There are a few familiar faces in the bunch, and some really wonderful photos - from professional quality to great subjects.
The final results were a little surprising after having looked through all 177 photos (some with multiple fiery redheads in the same photo), but still very nice. The final winning photo is here.
I apologize for not letting you know more about the stages of the contest, but there was so little information. It was unclear whether this contest was open to just U.S. residents or the whole world, and there was no deadline specifically posted. Hopefully, the next redhead photo contest TMZ holds will have more detailed rules and a longer entry duration.
Edit: Well, I just found the contest rules, not on the entry form page, but on the voting page.

TMZ's website is boasting a $250 top prize as well as "some secret mystery gifts" for winners of a redhead photo contest.
TMZ's Ravishing Redhead Contest
Unfortunately the site is a little low on details. It was posted last Wednesday, March 24, 2010 and I heard that they have contests like this weekly. So when is the deadline? Wednesday, March 31? Friday? Later? We just don't know.
Also, in photography circles of late, there has been criticism of how many rights are handed over in photography contests. Some photography sites track such contests and provide warnings for potential entrants. The sparse rules, seem to be on the level, but I'm not an expert. "You acknowledge you own all rights to the photograph and you hereby grant to TMZ the royalty-free and non-exclusive right to use your photograph(s) for any purpose and in any media, including without limitation, on the TMZ.com website and on the TMZ television program." This isn't much different than what you agree to on Facebook, YouTube, or Redhead World; you keep all rights, but grant them rights to display winners in their media and shows, as well as promotions. They also insist you and anyone in the photo has given consent for this usage.
To enter the contest, you just click on the graphic on TMZ's site and it will launch your local e-mail application. You attach the photos and provide your name and phone number. There seems to be no geographic limits either, but maybe that's covered under the TMZ website's terms? It is rather surprising at the lack of legal wording.
So, are any of you redheads going to be entering the contest?

RedPeople.org Redhead Moscow Meet

Russian redheads ahead of the curve for redheadedness? Oh, you bet! Russians have been having regular redhead festivals, gatherings, and successful social networks long before the rest of the other worldwide redheads.
The Red Constitution RedPeople.org / Рыжий мир is hosting another redhead gathering in Moscow, Russia. The place is again Cafe Apshu on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Details are at the end of the blog.
RedPeople.org has been a bustling Russian redhead social network for many years. They cover redhead news all over the world, in particular the Redhead Festival in Udmart - Рыжий фестиваль. But since a pretty good record in 2009, they've been having more and more frequent meets, particularly in Moscow and St. Petersburg. They aim to have one redhead gathering per month in 2010.

The members of this Russian network can be a great source of inspiration to all with red hair. Hopefully, more local clubs will strengthen the worldwide community as a whole, spreading ideas, friendships, and information among regional and international festivals as well as networks such as Redhead World. Redhead World will soon be reporting on such a local club here in the United States.
If that fun-looking photo of redheads gathered together at a local cafe has inspired you to create a local redhead club, let us know. We'll try to help you get the word out as much as we can.
For those who want more information on RedPeople.org you can also join their new .
