Since my boyfriend is very much not redheaded, I have always wondered if it would even be a possibility to have a redhead. Alas! I have found the answer. MyRedhairGene.com sells tests that you can order, then collect DNA, and then send it back to their labs. The labs then send you a report which exaplins if you are a carrier or not (or what varient of the MC1R gene you have if you are a redhead).
Fabulous! I have not actually purchased this test yet- solely based on the fact that it is a little pricey. I do intend to order one in the future though. For all of you who are very curious and have some extra money laying around give it a look.
For those that do order it, please comment about it on this post. I would LOVE to hear about it.

So next Wednesday I get to get my art nouveau Ariel :)
I can't waiiiiit!
And today my boss said she'd let me color in her owl tattoo on her arm :D
Which is an honor, 'cause she doesn't let just anyone tattoo her!
..But anyways. That's about all, lol.
If you're reading this and don't mind answering.. What's a tattoo that you've always wanted?
I'm curious on what people are thinking out there tattoo wise! C:
This is the greatest Star Wars re-make ever! They should have done it this way the first time they re-made it. Hahaha!

North American Redhead Gathering - Summer 2010

Redhead World is working to create a redhead gathering in North America this summer. For the past few years, there has been a lot of demand for a large redhead gathering on this side of the Atlantic for those who can't make the trip to Roodharigendag in the Netherlands.
So, Redhead World is going to dive in with a large gathering, possibly 2,000 or more redheads. We've been in talks with a midwest Celtic festival for several months now. We haven't quite made all the arrangements official yet, so we can't reveal the particular festival or location just yet. The festival council has met to consider our ideas though, and given it an enthusiastic "go." We want to give all of you a "heads up" so you could start planning travel plans.
The event will take place in the United States' midwest region on the weekend of August 8, 2010 with the redhead events currently planned for that day. In addition to a massive redhead gathering and photoshoot, there will be a redhead contest. Redhead World will also have a small information tent set up at the festival so you can stop by to meet me, CelticCurls, and other member volunteers and maybe meet some other redheads in the days leading up to Sunday's big event.
A redhead documentarian whose team is doing a documentary on redheads is attending. They will be filming the various redhead events and conducting some interviews.
We hope to release official details very soon, however, Redhead World needs your help!
Our sponsorship of this Celtic festival alone will be quite a substantial fee ($5,000), but it does buy us a lot. Based on the festival's annual reports' attendance figures, we expect over 2,000 redheads to be attending the festival each day - we hope most of them will attend our photoshoot. We also get everything that goes along with one of the best-planned and largest Celtic festivals in the world: many food vendors on hand, lots of shopping, insurance, police/security, first aid, transportation, parking, and several stages and exhibits of the best Celtic music and entertainment.
So, please, please, help make our redhead gathering possible. We have just launched a sponsorship page where you can sponsor us for as little as $10. We would only need 600 people to buy a $10 sponsorship to make our goal of $6,000 to cover our expenses. Please help us as much as you can; as a new website, we simply don't have enough money to cover all of the costs.
We'll be publishing a list of ways you can help spread the word in the coming days too, please help however you can!
And if you aren't a member of Redhead World - Join Today for Free! You can stay informed on redhead news, redhead gatherings and festivals, and make new redhead friends.

yesterday on the 12th i was walking down a city street in my home city of sydney when a beutiful cuddly redhead lady cuaght my eye. she was walking with a lady freind whom were going to a ATM outside a bank.
so i walked up to her and said your a redhead?, she replied yes. i could tell stright away her accent was scottish.
so i introduced myself and she told me her name was sarah. so i asked her how long she been in australia for. and said a few months and the weather is warmer than in scotland.
i then asked her what she thinks of redhead guys. she said " yeah, i know its a double standard but i wouldnt go out with a redhead guy, more like guys with dark hair" i told her thats sick and its not fair that some ginger guys cant find girlfreinds and dark haired guys treat ginger girls like " objects". she then made a sound of disconcernment and we both said have a nice day and then walked off in opposite directions.
now thats a classic example of how ginger women have been conditioned, stereotyped and brainwashed in to thinking that they are only good for dark haired western lads while redhead guys have to go without.
so redhead ladies what do you all think?

I was walking on a bike trail today and discovered a useful benefit of my aversion to sunscreen and the sun (like most of the ginger species).................having lost my enthusiasm for running I found myself sprinting through the parts of the trail that weren't sheltered from the sun. As a result I went twice as far. I plan to exploit my new discovery as much as possible in order to get in better shape. Brunettes and blondes might be able to tan but i would rather be healthy, and I am quite satisfied with my tendency to freckle.
Other Benefits
feeling a kinship with random strangers (other gingers)
a sense of uniqueness
an irrational feeling of a connection with the weasleys (hp)
striking hair : )
a visible reason to celebrate st. patricks day
a greater bond with ginger animals (cats, dogs etc.)
.............

So. Im going to college in the fall. In Montana, Helena to be specific. I have NO idea what to expect and im trying not to freak out. I will be the second one in my entire family, (down both sides) to go away to school. I have no idea what to expect. I am a spoiled brat, truley i am, i have never really had to share my room for more then three months when my best friend moved in with me and my family. So im asking you, What should i expect in a Catholic College??? Whats Montana like? Ive never been there.

Belgian entry in 1980, way ahead of its time :)

Maybe you wonder why I'm posting something about my guitar but it's I think one of the most important thing I can talk about.
I startet playing the guitar around 4 years ago. My das is an musican and so I was confronted with instruments (especially guitars) and music since the date of my birth. By playing secretly I broke a guitar of him (sorry dad) and then he gave me my first own guitar (an Aria)! From this day on I started to learn it by my own.
The song "If I had a hammer" is tagged, because that was the first song I learned. The second one was already written by me and I called it "I love you". I haven't sang this one for a long time but last week I found the lyrics and corrected the gramatical mistakes and made other chords so I can play it now again.
I have few songs that are written by me but most time I play and sing just songs I like - it doesn't matter if german or english - ( Jar of hearts, Rolling in the deep, Rape me...). What I'm playing is not what I hear because metal isn't very easy to sing for a girl. But from some songs I make finger style ( Enter sandman, master of puppets...).
That's it! xoxo

I very, very rarely send out friend requests unless it's somebody I've been speaking with, but other people seem to go around adding the most random of people. I generally accept all friend requests, and about 90% of those who have requested friendship have never spoken with me, and never do speak to me! Not even a hi. Ever! So what's the point?

hey I was eating my breakfast and I didnt realize I swallowed a teeny tiny piece of glass. will that kill me or anything, I'm just abit worried that I might get sick or will it go though my system.
please help ASAP

Hey kids here's a fresh one for you. From one of my favorite plays by William Shakespeare, Hamlet.
"Life is but a walking shadow, a poor player who struts and frets his hour upon the stage and is herd of no more. A tale told by an idiot full of sounds a furry signafying nothing."
Enjoy!
This stuff was creepy. No cool music like in the 80s either....no....just weird beeps. I tell ya, my grandparents used to go crazy when I got up at 5am (being a hyperactive and weird child)and put this on....
I can't believe I missed this:
The test cards and talking clock (mum told me about this!) were a feature of analogue, with digital they don't need this anymore. So....there will never be a live broadcast of this again. ;) Kind of weird how I used to sit and watch this as a child though! A trivial fact is that it was also made so that people could align their CRT tv's. :)
When I first heard about Redhead Day in Breda, I fell in love with the idea of redheads getting together and meeting other redheads. I wanted to go but I knew it would cost a lot of money that I didn't have. With the US having the largest population of redheads, why don't we have one here in the states? I'm sure we could get the same numbers as Breda if not higher.
I would appreciate everyones thoughts and hopefully one day there will be a Redhead Day USA.

Where are you on the ginger spectrum? =P <3

Well all my life I was told Im a ginger, and Im a redhead. Now I come to find there are "categories" of red. I know Im not strawberry blond eventhough someone has said it to me before, I have natural blond highlights but my hair is definetly too dark. Ive had people tell me my hair is a beautiful bright copper and dark copper color, then Ive been told my hair is dark auburn. Im so confused...I have brownish bright red that matches cherrywood when I stand next to it; but in the sun theres natural blond highlights all throughout, and because I have lighter brown eyes they actually appear red and match my hair. So my question is am I auburn or copper? Light or dark?

I can finally post that we won!!!!
We are so grateful for all the votes for our family. You can watch the webisodes here:
Hello!
So, I fell in love with our very own Fraz approximately 2 years ago and we have been trying to make this trans continental relationship work ever since then. So far, we have been quite successful and I love this handsome ginger specimen more than ever.
Here is where I need your help, a student budget does not allow for visits to NZ willy-nilly. Air New Zealand has an eighties contest which I entered to win tickets to see my love. Votes are required to win and I would love to be able to see him.
For those of you on facebook, would you take a few seconds to go vote? The ap is safe, you can vote once per day until the 30th of April and if I win that means that ginger love wins. =) The link to vote is at the bottom of this blog.
I know you all live and love the creedo "gingers unite". Let's see it in action!
Much love and many thanks,
Kelsie

Abstract: Yeah, what the title says ^^^^.
(if you can't be bothered reading the rest!)
Elaboration: But seriously, I'm kinda stuck on my other two projects, both which I started in 2006. The third one I started early this year, but stopped adding to it because I ran out of ideas and wasn't sure exactly where I wanted to lead it. Maybe university taking over my schedule in February was also to blame! After all, I had a lot of essays and coursework already...who really would want to write more?
The 2nd one I started writing has a bit of a paranormal storyline. I don't think this could really go anywhere as it's not really for any age group. There is some suggested violence, though not graphic, although the main story would be aimed at around the same age as Harry Potter was (see where the issue is? They had a few problems with classifying that, publishing the books was also difficult). I am also out of ideas for this one.
The first was pretty much a pet project which I enjoyed writing in 2004. I developed the whole idea and wrote more of a storyline in 2006, although it really falls into the category of 'fictional biography'. It is really about a set of unidentical twins, the twin bond etc and some events which affect them throughout their lives. I even devised a 2nd follow-up story, but writing for the 'big screen' isn't exactly wise. It was the only one of my pet projects to become something bigger (to me, anyway) and the whole story started off as just one of multiple fictional biographies I wrote. I just love to describe things, which made me an absolute star in English class (this is where I found I had a talent for imaginative writing....at about age 15). Doesn't really help you expand the story though. Oh and the twins thing- I was a twin myself...but never really got to experience the bond thing. I did see it in my two twin older friends though...met one of them when he was a supply teacher at my high school, next thing I knew I had met his (identical!) twin brother on the bus during the Summer break. If I hadn't lost contact, we would still be friends (he was one of those rebel-type teachers who talked to the kids just outside of school hours - long story).
The third one is controversial in some ways. I could expand on it to make it an absolutely pristine piece of descriptive/imaginative writing, maybe suitable for 13+, or I could take it down into alternate routes to make it more worthy of attention. I published some of it here, those of you who saw would know I am big on my imaginative descriptions and poetry....but I had to remove some of it, through decency. I could create 3 different versions of this one, just to access a larger range of people, but I am worried about the 'featured character' who happens to be a real person. I wouldn't want to cause any problems there. If it wasn't for this, then great! I would be able to publish this somewhere online right away. I would want to publish this in future anyway, as it involved a lot of effort and I really did spend a lot of time on it. I did not put names in it, so that should be alright; but asking will still be required. I also would not want it to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
So many problems when writing. I have definitely chosen the right genre, just that there isn't much of an audience...or if there is, there is always another reason not to publish!
But anyhow, I still have some writing in the blog....mainly from January and such. That's evidence of how I use way too much vocabulary and really try to give it a nice, shiny finish.. maybe I should just release the work without concentrating on making it all into some kind of novel? After all, sometimes good things are found in small creations!

Hello everyone. I found redhead-world.net through facebook, so I decided to look into it and see what this site was all about. It seems like it'll be a fun place to hang-out online.
I guess it wouldn't be a true introduction without telling my "redhead stories."
My mother and father are both brunnette, and out of 4 children they had 3 redheads. Funny story about that...when my older sister was born my mom was so shocked by the hair color and exclaimed "where did the hair come from?!" the nurse jokingly responded, "must be from the mailman." My mother (still loopy from medicines) sobbed and sobbed to my father promising that my sister was his (there was no concern, my mother is a very faithful woman and my sister looks almost exactly like my father). My father then turned to the nurse and responded, "Our mailman has red hair."
--She promised she'd never make that joke again, lol!
I've grown up with random people reaching out to touch my hair, or play with it without asking. Sometimes in shopping lines someone will reach out just to touch it...it's really quite awkward at times, lol. When I was little I was once terrified by an elderly woman in a nursing home who couldn't speak very well. She was patting my head really hard and speaking gibberish, and just as I was on the verge of tears a nurse took her away. The nurse returned explain to me that the elderly woman's daughter was a redhead as well, and I reminded her of her.
What didn't help with the "drive-by hair pullings" was that my mother did not allow me to cut my hair growing-up, so it was extremely long...down to my hips. LOL! When my grandmother developed breast cancer and began to lose her hair was the first time I cut my own hair. She was so upset at losing her hair that I told her I'd give her mine. Thankfully she was in remission before I could even get enough hair to make a wig from.
Currently with the "making fun of gingers" craze going around, I am facing some discrimination. Most people mean it jokingly, but I then point out that if I called someone the "N-word" even in jest, that it would NOT be a laughing matter. Usually that clears the whole ordeal up. Sometimes with meanies, though, it just makes the situation worse.
All I have to say is this: Chuck Norris is a ginger!!! He'll round-house kick you if you make fun of his hair!

Hi all,
My first blog post ever and partly testing the new functionality to add Youtube movies to blog posts.
But at the same time a nice change to mention that this month a new Epica album has been released.
I don't have it yet because I'm not allowed to buy stuff because of my birthday and x-mas that are coming up.
I usually don't have any thoughts on presents and that's why I'm not allowed to buy stuff
Not that I buy a lot of stuff but I'm happy with all the things I've got.
But Youtube is the way to go at the moment and if I did my homework right there should be a Youtube video underneath this text with as far as I'm concerned one of the best songs of this new album. Enjoy!

Maybe you wonder why I'm posting something about my guitar but it's I think one of the most important thing I can talk about.

My mother is a shorter than average woman with straight brown hair, green eyes and freckled skin. While my two oldest aunts-and the one's that accompanied my mother on these shopping days-were redheads. Not strawberry blondes, not brownish-red, very brightly colored redheaded women.
Needless to say, all the strangers who wanted to admire the red haired baby (me) would look straight to one of my aunts with their comments. This of course was quickly followed by my aunt explaining that I was her niece and my own mother to voice in and claim me, her little fire ball, as her own.
"Ahahaha! No, but seriously, you're baby has beautiful hair." the stranger would say again to my aunt, shrugging off the ridiculousness that my aunt, and not my true mother, could possibly not have birthed me- in all my redheadedness. This of course would lead my mother to again inject that I really was her baby sometimes two or three times, usually ending with the stranger leaving with a "what a bunch of liars" look on their face. Something my mother and aunts came to find very humorous.
After a few encounters of this type, I became adopted by my aunts, at least on those Girl's Days out so as not to confuse those admiring strangers who would not believe otherwise.
- This is a story my mother told me after I grew up a little and I find it very funny. Has anyone else had this type of situation happen with them?

One thing we redheads have to deal with is prejudice.I have no clue why (maybe they're just jealous of our supreme good looks jkjk) but seriously, why are redheads so singled out? People say we're soulless, hot-tempered, rumored to turn into vampires after we die (go figure!), and even that red hair is the mark of a witch. As with any prejudice it can get dangerous.
A good example would be the Kick a Ginger Day in '09. Anybody remember that? This kid made a facebook group off of the South Park episode on gingers? Well apparently he was arrested and charged with inciting a riot or something. Yeah well, my classmates had fun with that particular 'holiday...
I wasn't always the most popular kid and that is an understatement. On November 27 2009 a group of my classmates cornered me and a girl named Michelle (who also had red hair) behind the school. They kicked us and threw rocks at us and kicked us and hit us. They also said really mean things about redheads.
I don't get why we're so bullied I mean blondes are too but not quite as severe. I remember when I was younger my best friend had the prettiest copper hair I'd ever seen but when we would go to movies people would throw popcorn and red candies (hot tamales, red skittles etc) into our hair.
Eventually I realized hey, why should I care what people say? And I was 10x happier when I didn't. Now whenever anybody calls me 'Ginger' or 'Red' I thank them for pointing out the obvious and tell them I will check in the mirror to ascertain to what they've said xD

HELP my friends band "Stand Alone Complex" get into AMP magazine!!!
you can vote once a day!!
they're sooo CLOSEEE to being able to get in!!

I found another great quote, this time from an artist. I think it deffinately describes what most artists feel, at least its the way I feel, when working on something. It even applies to just any project that some one is doing, something that they enjoy doing or just put a lot into. I found this one on my calander. It funny where you come across wisdoms and such. Just goes to show, that if you keep your eyes open and pay attention in life, you'll find some great things.

dont you wish you could press pause on moments
hold those elusive feelings close
hold those moments forever
before they crumble before your eyes

Hey all!
I know a lot of you are wondering where the big redhead photo from Dublin, Ohio and the whole gallery are, and we're working on it! I just reminded the festival council we still don't have the official photo yet. Don't forget to share and upload your own photos too!
I decided last minute on Saturday to go to the Toronto Redhead Summit, so I'm recovering from that on top of other business. It was fun, got lots of video, photos, and stories that I need to post from it too! The duo is really amazing and despite pouring rain, they had about 150 redheads, of which I met about 20.
I should be around (other than behind-the-scenes) the site this weekend (gah, hope there's no last-minute redhead summits ). I can't wait to chat with you all and share all the fun things that have been happening.
Getting the site internationalized and ready for Roodharigendag next weekend too, languages are coming along.
See you more soon - gotta sleep.

im downing in my own slelf confidence
and now i might just go a bit deeper

and i've taken it to the edge
and every one has changed
then all sinareios change
but im still the same
left out lonely
i like i might just take one step further
walk all over me now
till the end
cos all im used as is a door mat
something thats around to pick up all your mud on your shoes
so why dose every thing seem desperate now
she left the room.
she entered the room.
i feel like some thing deep in side has died
all it talks is one more push
and i'll be gone for good
no where to go except my own self remorse
i keep braking down
i fail to keep my self afloat
im still downing
this might just be the end
whats the point in life
when it's all over
take me now
i need to be in my safe place!
i need someone to hold me before im down for good!

I was like ew and blocked and reported him.
has he said anything to any of you?

I hate how people assume I'm Irish or Scottish just because I have red hair! It drives me insane that people segregate us just cuz we have a certain hair color. I don't generalize brunettes or blondes or assume that only one nationality can possess one shade of color, and to think in such a manner is pure idiocy at it's finest.
I for one do not owe one strand of red hair on my head head to any celtic ancestory. I'm German and Dutch through and through. European mutt but not being resembling the "Lucky Charms" sterotype that most people assume about redheads.
sorry if it sounds like a little bit of nagging but I just get annoyed with all the assumptions about my hair color and the nationality or my ancestory. But have any of you ever got this type of reaction before?
Thanks

I didn't talk to it as long as some people who told me about it (4 hours...what is with that? I was on it for about 1 hour 30 minutes!).
Bizzare-o.
Apparently it isn't a redhead. Aww.
ha!

I'm having trouble picking classes for next year and it is frustrating the hell outta me.
I'm enrolled in a Bachelor of Classical Studies at the Australian National University.
I major in Latin and Ancient History.
For each semester (of which there are two a year) you complete four classes, so eight in a year.
Next year is my final year. I shall have completed my Ancient History major in June. So aside from the classes needed to complete my Latin major, I have three slots free to choose what I want to do.
One course is I saw was Tudor-Stuart England, over a 300 year period. It's not really ancient enough for me to really consider it but it is an interesting period of English history. Plus there's no final exam because it's research based.
So do I Tudor or do I not Tudor???
Considering that I still have 6-7 months before I have to worry about it I'm probably just detracting from the studies I do have.
Damn my tired brain for figuring that out. Blissful ignorance was so much better than exhausted conscience.

If there's one thing I cannot stand, it's being called blonde simply because the red in my hair is starting to fade.
I recently had my hair done because I felt like something different. It's now short and a darker red (although it wasn't a permanent colouring so it's fading back to its original).
At uni one day I was procrastinating homework and trolling the net when I came across M.I.A's new music video in which male gingers are brutally murdered. I have no idea what the relevance between the song and the video was but that's for another blog.
Anyway, I made some comment about the video expressing my displeasure when one of my classmates pipes up,
"what are you complaining about? You've only been a redhead for a week!"
Boy was I mad. For some reason I truly dislike people thinking I'm not a redhead. Maybe I'm just neurotic.
My rather testy reply was "actually, I've been a redhead since birth" and asked if she wanted to see my fire crotch as proof.
Then I proceeded to offend her blonde stupidity.
Neurotic much?

hello world and welcome to the captains quarters :).
it is currently 8:33 P.M here in ontario, Canada and i am bored, tired and kinda sore. My father and i had to do yardwork today and it wasn't fun. later my family went to a place called teeterville for a fish fry ( a very small hick town ! lol)
i don't know if any of you's have heard, or seen. but the artist M.i.A has released a new song called " born free " i think. But it's not the lyrics that get to me, it's the video that was made with it. The video is all about " Ginger Genocide" it's a NSFW video, and i'll put a link at the end of this post if you think you can handle the video.
i've thought about who made up the nickname ginger and why they picked that name. i mean like, the ginger root is brown. who came up with the so called fact that. we red heads have no souls? thats just crazy, like in some places people are supposed to spit on the ground and walk the other way if they see a red head. ancient egyptians buried redheads alive !. what did WE do as a race or whatever to deserve this kind of treatment? like that one video on youtube on the redhead worlds channel, only 1 - 2 % of the world? or just america? i can't remember but anyways, only like 2% of the world is red headed. we are a rare race, and we should be treated with some more respect. not just pushed to the side like we're a bunch of neanderthals.
well. that's it for my second post., i'm off to blast some loud music and play godfather on my wii :p lol
oh yes .. the link for M.I.A's song and video ... (http://www.miauk.com/) NSFW ! violence !
good day to all :)

The MythBusters pain episode featuring redheads that everyone has been waiting for is tonight, April 28, 2010 (in the U.S. at least).
In early January we reported that Adam Savage was making a call for redhead test volunteers for the show via his Twitter channel. We got the word out quickly enough that a couple of our members were able to apply, and so you just might see our own MissyMarie on tonight's program.
BoltZero and others did more research and found that the episode would revolve around pain. Do redheads feel more? Women or men? Can cursing help ease the pain? All of that will be found on tonight's episode.
Here are some preview clips:
See the Kari Byron Swear Pain Test at the Discovery Channel site.
UPDATE #1: User OmniTomato was spotted. Here he is with Jamie Hyneman while Adam Savage works the computers. They used ice water to test the myths.
After dunking:

We reported earlier about the TMZ "Ravishing Redheads" photo contest. The results are in!
TMZ released the 177 entries and put them up for voting. You can see all the entries here. There are a few familiar faces in the bunch, and some really wonderful photos - from professional quality to great subjects.
The final results were a little surprising after having looked through all 177 photos (some with multiple fiery redheads in the same photo), but still very nice. The final winning photo is here.
I apologize for not letting you know more about the stages of the contest, but there was so little information. It was unclear whether this contest was open to just U.S. residents or the whole world, and there was no deadline specifically posted. Hopefully, the next redhead photo contest TMZ holds will have more detailed rules and a longer entry duration.
Edit: Well, I just found the contest rules, not on the entry form page, but on the voting page.

Redhead World now has a too.

"His physical appearance astounded me. Like fresh red roses growing on a snowy mountainside, under which rare green emeralds reside. He was dashing, soft-spoken and sincere. Contrasting his gentle appearance was his astounding green eyes, with a stare which could cut through glass. This timidity hid the frustration within, to which one could only hazard a guess. Like the roses growing in the snow, he was strong. Like the emeralds, he was rare. His persona was just and fair.
Quiet as a mouse, yet as brave as a lion. As brilliant as the first Winter snow, yet as mysterious as each star in the night sky.
Bear with me please, for I need you to know; there is no other place I would rather go. When I get to that special place, there is nothing more I ask than your warm embrace.
So please join me now, come find me here; end all my nightmares and chase away all my fears."
I wrote this in the early hours of the morning when I couldn't sleep. It is the 1st part to a slightly larger piece of writing. It is nowhere near complete.
Adam Savage & Kari Byron must be working to bust some redhead myths! They want 25 natural redheads from the San Francisco area that are available for 4 hours on January 21, 2010. No payment, but they will get a free t-shirt.
The fact that they are also looking for women who have done natural childbirth around the same time makes me wonder though, are they looking into the pain myths that have been studied recently by scientists?
There's been quite a lot of retweeting and some enthusiastic responses, even by redheads outside San Fran. But they insist, you must be living in their home base.

http://www.newser.com/story/76166/uk-chain-yanks-anti-redhead-xmas-card.html
British supermarket giant Tesco has yanked a card from its shelves that poked fun at redheads after complaints from the outraged, red-haired mother of three redheaded daughters. The company said the card-which pictured a red-headed toddler with Santa and the words "Santa loves all kids. Even ginger ones"-wasn't mean to upset anybody, the BBC reports.
"I thought maybe it was just me because I am a mother of kids with red hair, but a lot of my friends and other people are absolutely disgusted," said the complaining mom. "If the card had been about an overweight child the shop would have been shut down, and so would the people who made the card."
Can somebody in the UK send me a card ? i'll pay for it !
This week through December 15, the U.K.'s "Strawberry Bus" gives free fare to those with red hair!
A family-owned bus company created to connect three cities northwest of Liverpool, England, United Kingdom is not only making commuters smile since its debut November 16, 2009. Starting this week through December 15, 2009, the Strawberry Bus is offering free tickets to ride for redheads!
The Strawberry Bus's 1-line of service provides connections from Warrington, up to St. Helens, and ending at Skelmersdale. The trip is about 90 minutes end to end with several stops along the way. It operates for most of the day, Monday-Saturday.

As Violence Continues, Countermovement Strengthens
I didn't blog about "Kick a Ginger Day" earlier last week. I was hoping that the day of gingerism spawned from a Facebook group spawned from a stupid intrepretation of the South Park episode "Ginger Kids" would quietly die out after its mild commotion in Canada last year. (Some background on "Kick a Ginger Day" and a clip from the inspiring South Park episode can be found here.) Unfortunately, it seems we've had something of a second annual event.
Violence against redheads continued this November 20, 2009, possibly worse the the inaugural 2008 event:
- More than 24 students were suspended at a Canadian school for allegedly beating 4 redhead students.
- Up to 14 students in Calabasas, California, United States beat up a 12-year-old redhead boy.
Apparently, the phenomenon is not being contained within English language countries.

Universal Hug a Ginger Day
Fortunately a redhead woman in its place. While the "Kick a Ginger Day" group peaked at 5,000, the new "Hug a Ginger Day" has a very respectable following of 1,300 members. The group asks, "Next November 20th why not give a red head friend a hug instead of a kick?"

Wow!
That's about all I can say. If you had told me 2 weeks ago, that next week I and my fellow Dutch redhead geek friend would build an entire social network in about a week, I wouldn't have believed it.
But here we are, using some off-the-shelf components, some decent hosting, fiddling and debugging, a little programming here and there to smooth things out, and just hours and hours of work: it's here.
Not to say there isn't plenty of work left ahead, and due to that, I must keep this blog short.
Wouter705 & I welcome all you redheads and redhead lovers! I hope that this free network will meet and exceed your needs!
If you're a Redhead Ginger, give this to the people who have persecuted you.
The Egg

You were on your way home when you died.
It was a car accident. Nothing particularly remarkable, but fatal nonetheless. You left behind a wife and two children. It was a painless death. The EMTs tried their best to save you, but to no avail. Your body was so utterly shattered you were better off, trust me.
And that's when you met me.
"What... what happened?" You asked. "Where am I?"
"You died," I said, matter-of-factly. No point in mincing words.
"There was a... a truck and it was skidding..."
"Yup," I said.
"I... I died?"
"Yup. But don't feel bad about it. Everyone dies," I said.
You looked around. There was nothingness. Just you and me. "What is this place?" You asked. "Is this the afterlife?"
"More or less," I said.
"Are you god?" You asked.
"Yup," I replied. "I'm God."
"My kids... my wife," you said.
"What about them?"
"Will they be all right?"
"That's what I like to see," I said. "You just died and your main concern is for your family. That's good stuff right there."
You looked at me with fascination. To you, I didn't look like God. I just looked like some man. Or possibly a woman. Some vague authority figure, maybe. More of a grammar school teacher than the almighty.
"Don't worry," I said. "They'll be fine. Your kids will remember you as perfect in every way. They didn't have time to grow contempt for you. Your wife will cry on the outside, but will be secretly relieved. To be fair, your marriage was falling apart. If it's any consolation, she'll feel very guilty for feeling relieved."
"Oh," you said. "So what happens now? Do I go to heaven or hell or something?"
"Neither," I said. "You'll be reincarnated."
"Ah," you said. "So the Hindus were right,"
"All religions are right in their own way," I said. "Walk with me."
You followed along as we strode through the void. "Where are we going?"
"Nowhere in particular," I said. "It's just nice to walk while we talk."
"So what's the point, then?" You asked. "When I get reborn, I'll just be a blank slate, right? A baby. So all my experiences and everything I did in this life won't matter."
"Not so!" I said. "You have within you all the knowledge and experiences of all your past lives. You just don't remember them right now."
I stopped walking and took you by the shoulders. "Your soul is more magnificent, beautiful, and gigantic than you can possibly imagine. A human mind can only contain a tiny fraction of what you are. It's like sticking your finger in a glass of water to see if it's hot or cold. You put a tiny part of yourself into the vessel, and when you bring it back out, you've gained all the experiences it had.
"You've been in a human for the last 48 years, so you haven't stretched out yet and felt the rest of your immense consciousness. If we hung out here for long enough, you'd start remembering everything. But there's no point to doing that between each life."
"How many times have I been reincarnated, then?"
"Oh lots. Lots and lots. An in to lots of different lives." I said. "This time around, you'll be a Chinese peasant girl in 540 AD."
"Wait, what?" You stammered. "You're sending me back in time?"
"Well, I guess technically. Time, as you know it, only exists in your universe. Things are different where I come from."
"Where you come from?" You said.
"Oh sure," I explained "I come from somewhere. Somewhere else. And there are others like me. I know you'll want to know what it's like there, but honestly you wouldn't understand."
"Oh," you said, a little let down. "But wait. If I get reincarnated to other places in time, I could have interacted with myself at some point."
"Sure. Happens all the time. And with both lives only aware of their own lifespan you don't even know it's happening."
"So what's the point of it all?"
"Seriously?" I asked. "Seriously? You're asking me for the meaning of life? Isn't that a little stereotypical?"
"Well it's a reasonable question," you persisted.
I looked you in the eye. "The meaning of life, the reason I made this whole universe, is for you to mature."
"You mean mankind? You want us to mature?"
"No, just you. I made this whole universe for you. With each new life you grow and mature and become a larger and greater intellect."
"Just me? What about everyone else?"
"There is no one else," I said. "In this universe, there's just you and me."
You stared blankly at me. "But all the people on earth..."
"All you. Different incarnations of you."
"Wait. I'm everyone!?"
"Now you're getting it," I said, with a congratulatory slap on the back.
"I'm every human being who ever lived?"
"Or who will ever live, yes."
"I'm Abraham Lincoln?"
"And you're John Wilkes Booth, too," I added.
"I'm Hitler?" You said, appalled.
"And you're the millions he killed."
"I'm Jesus?"
"And you're everyone who followed him."
You fell silent.
"Every time you victimized someone," I said, "you were victimizing yourself. Every act of kindness you've done, you've done to yourself. Every happy and sad moment ever experienced by any human was, or will be, experienced by you."
You thought for a long time.
"Why?" You asked me. "Why do all this?"
"Because someday, you will become like me. Because that's what you are. You're one of my kind. You're my child."
"Whoa," you said, incredulous. "You mean I'm a god?"
"No. Not yet. You're a fetus. You're still growing. Once you've lived every human life throughout all time, you will have grown enough to be born."
"So the whole universe," you said, "it's just..."
"An egg." I answered. "Now it's time for you to move on to your next life."
And I sent you on your way.

Okay, so I just became a licensed tattoo artist not too long ago, and I figured I'd post my work on here :)

Slices and Slicettes,
Well its been a while since i have bloged/ even been on this site. i dont know what has been keeping me so occupied but none the less im here now. as the cold continues to get colder ( not so happy bout that) i seem to keep busy. Haloween is soon so i though id take the time to reflect on past haloween experiencs/ costumes over the years. As a wee one i always had the most random costume idea's, one year i went as a clown and princess the same that you would see in any party store. but then advanced to the sun made with a giant ball and paper mache with holes for my arms and legs, My sister decided that i couldnt be the only one with a cool costume so she did the same and went as the earth. painted perfectly with all continents. then i went on to be .. if i can remember a spider, the princess from neverending story ( dont know where i got that idea) and in grade 8 made a giant pizza slice out of cardboard paper paint anad various glues and tapes. i won first prize out of my class for that one ( my goal all along ). In highschool i went on to be " too cool to dress up" i went to a catholic school where we had uniforms and it was dress down day at the end of every month so a couple years i took that opportunity and didnt dress up for "comfort" reasons ( thats what i said atleast). although i do believe i went as a devil one year. In college first year i went as a cheerleader. basically becasue i had no money for a costume so i just wore my cheerleading outfit from highschool, and second year i went as rainbow bright. I always wanted to go as some celebrity or some clever thing but the only redhead famous person i could go as in a group with friends was ginger spice and you can only do that so many times. after college i stoped dressing up until 2 years ago i had a party to go to at the my friends frat house in t.o and a party at a friends the next night so i went toamerican apparel ( i dont knwo how so many ppl wear that stuff on a day to day basis) and cameup with the best costume ever ( or so i thought) mohawked my hair with tonz of product and went as a zebra. by far my fav costume. so this year i am taking my nephews and niece out trick or treating and dont need a costume, but i ask anyone who actually reads these..... WHAT ARE YOU BEING OR DO YOU WISH YOU COULD BE FOR HALOWEEN????? HAPPY TRICK OR TREATING BE SAFE!!!!! O.Slice

you give me the smile on my face
you give me the hope that i feel
you give me the strength to make it through
you give me the confidence to believe
you give me the pleasure of being me
you give me the boost to move me on
you give me a taste of reality
you give me a slap back down to earth
you tell me enough is enough
you make me be me for other people to see
you open doors for me
and make pastures new
thanks for your support guys!

By Mr. Wickedredhead
One day, as ms Kit was wondering through the dazzling gumdrop forest, she realized "Oh dear, I have completely forgotten to study for my exams! whatever shall I do??"
A magical grade Fairy named Cara, with her mystical pixie Tootie descended from the cotton candy clouds, declaring " Do not worry little one! For I am the grade fairy, and you shall not fail this day!"
“Oh wonderful!" exlaimed Ms Kit with joy, "Whatever shall we learn first?"
"We are off to the tower of algorithm, where the math wizard Gemmell keeps all secrets of logic", stated Cara, and off they flew on a magical Fairy rainbow. Although you see, Time and immense logic had made the math wizard Gemmell quite grumpy and non-gregarious. As we saw the rainbow descend he began shouting" What???Inconceivable! Leave me now for I will teach no such logic to you" Quite torn by this, Ms Kit begged and pleaded with all her might, "Oh mr. Gemmell wont you please teach me! I have travelled so very far to learn your ways of logic". Looking down at Ms. Kit's pure heart, Gemmells features softened saying" Well it would seem quite unlogical for you to have come so far, and not receive my knowledge. Very well, I shall teach you the ways of logic" Now armed with both logic and her Spritely disposition, Kit was ready for new adventures. Asking Cara whatever she was to do now, she simply replied, "We are off to find Ms. Ivy, she will teach you the ways of Anatomy and the physical realm" Off they zoomed in a flash so brilliant, the stars themselves twinkled in envy. Finally arriving at the mystical garden of Ms. Ivy, The trio found themselves starring up at a vast tree, with branches so thick, even they could have supported several other large trees. Ms. Kit stepped forth shouting" Ms. Ivy are you there? I have come to learn the ways of Anatomy and the physical realm." All of a sudden, the numerous vines around the tree began to twist and contract at an alarming rate, a shout erupted from Ms. Kit until the vines had settled into a single distinguishable face which spoke in an almost ghastly voice, " I am Ms. Ivy, tell me what you seek"
Having regained her composure while receiving reassuring glances from Cara, Kit stepped forth stating her purpose, after thinking it over for what seems quite some time, Ms. Ivy replied "Yes, I can see you are worthy, I willt each you all there is to know of the physical form"
Now armed with logic, and knowledge of the physical composition, Ms. Kit was ready to face her exams. But little did she know....... The path to her exams was being guarded by Ninjas!
She turned to Cara in dismay, but Cara simply gave her a smile and replied, do not worry, this is your destiny, now take my gifts and achieve your goal. At that point, Cara transformed into a mighty unicorn stead, with red glowing eyes and a tail made of lightning. While at the same time, Tootie was transformed into a might blue fire-sword of power!
(Intense hardcore background music)
Now armed with the power she needed, Kit charged headfirst into battle, fending off the ninjas every blow. Taking on several at once she was able to take advantage of their weak spots using her newly gained knowledge of the human body. Until finally it was just her and the Ninja leader left
(intense staredown) Both warriors equally matched, stood poised, ready. Waiting for the other to make their move. "You are quite strong Kit-san, but you are no match for my me, the Ninja-King", said the stealthy lord as he drew back his blades.
Ms. Kit knew that they were equally matched, and Victory might not be apparent. Thinking quickly, she remembered back to her training with Math wizard Gemmell. "Thats it!" she cried, " If I cant defeat you with my body, then I shall defeat you with my mind"
Suddenly Kit begins glowing with power as the knowledge of a thousand eons flows through her. Her power-level was in fact over 9000. "No! How can this be! You cannot defeat me!" Screamed the Ninja-King as he begins to run, however it was too late. The Mass power of kits mental prowess was so strong, nothing could escape.
Utterly defeated, the Ninja-King lay defeated. As Kit approached him, she drops her sword, all she really wanted was to take her exams. The Ninja-King, begins to laugh, Kit becomes aggitated screaming,"What could possibly be so funny??". The Lord simply smiles at her and says....you've passed Ms. Kit, you've passed.
Thus, Kit passed her exams, Cara and Tootie got to transform all cool like, and everyone lived happily ever after. Fin

slice and slicettes,
So, in my town you can tell when summer is over...
first there are no kids/teeneagers around ever, they have all gone back to school, two you have to wear socks or pants, and last there is no one lounging at the pool...
and with this happening as i type i am sad that yet another summer has flown by. (no fair) i will say however that it was one of the best summers weather wise and i did do my fair share of relaxing. i hope everyone had a great summer wherever you spent it.
looking forward to the fall......
with the changing leaves, ovarian cancer walk, birthdays, halloween, thanksgiving, american thanksgiving, aniversaries
so much to do and so little time...

this is what I found on a True Blood site about the charitor called Jessica and they call her a hot ginger yay
we are hot
Jessica, the girl Bill was forced to turn into a vampire by his elders. She's his "daughter," or "progeny." He's her "maker" or "sire." There's an interesting exploration into what's it like for a human to experience the turning into a creature of the night, the explosion of hormones and sensations and confusion that comes with it. But mostly, when I look at Jessica, I think: Hot, evil ginger. Is she seeing anyone?
this is jessica from True Blood shes one kick ass ginger vampire note the hot bit of the hot evil ginger

Don't you hate those days where you feel you've put a lot of effort in but you've ended up further behind then you were at the start of those days!
I've had one of those days and i feel like i need to shout out to the world saying this!
But i managed to get through it using mindless banter, joking around and laughing at people waking around in lederhosen!
But over all it was my minds able ness to place me in another world of my own thought!
This brought me to think are we all living on the edge of mental insanity closer to the line than we thought?
Or is this just are minds way of coping/will it drive us to the brink if we use it to much?
What do you think?
Thanks for reading ajbwalks random thoughts off the day!

what happens over the other side off the net,
can you trust the digital age,
how can you fancy something digital
is it really real, is it completely mad
to put all you hope and trust into something unknown
what is it that makes us think this way
how do we know that it’s not just another computer
are just we just absolutely crazy
or can we hide behind it
and use it to portray other beings
or we just scared that people will just see the real us
or scared of what might happen
but when we actually see each other we might just walk right on past
but we all know that this story is unfinished
who ever knows where it might end
but all it may be is the digital age

I was scrolling through the internet today,
i thought that i’d try something new,
and i’d typed up a few words,
clicked a few clicks,
sat back and took a few breaths,
and decided not to continue,
but a few months later,
during a time of two much thought,
i wandered upon what i had earlier done,
and a took a quick look upon,
hundreds of others staring,
back at me.

Hey everyone. Here's another quote from an amazing and classic peice of literature. I would suggest reading it if you can handle it. Its not the easiest of reads. One of my favorite books. Its from the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, more specifically the final book of the three called Paradisio or the part about heaven.
"Let Tom and Jane not thinik, because they see one man is picking pockets and another is offering all his goods to charity that they can judge their neighbors with God's eyes: for the pious man may fall, and the theif may rise." (Paradisio, Canto XIII Ln. 139-143)
Good stuff. Thats why if you read the Inferno you should look into the other two books. Its pretty obvious what it means and I'm not gonna tell ya anyway. You can figure it out for your self and you may see it differently from the way I see it. And remember if you have a good quote for me to post let me know. I'll eventually run out I'm sure.
So, I decided to do a quote of the day kind of thing. Accpet its not going to be every day. It's gonna be whenever I feel like posting one, hence the quote of whenever I feel like it. Feel free to send me good ones to post or what have you. The first one I came up with all by my lonesom, back in the day when I was but a young high school. However it sure is the truth. Ha!
"Life is like a big toilet bowl, its full of shit."
I hope you enjoyed the quote of the whenever I feel like it. I promise the next one will be from some one else. Right now I am thinking from a book. Check back and find out.

Me-My Dad's beard I guess.
Girl in my class(from middle school)-Is all your hair red?

Girl-I look so tan next to you.
Me-I look so short next to you.
Girl-Who dyed your hair it's so pretty.

hello world, welcome to the captains quarters.
i have really nothing to post this morning as i'm in a rush to get o school. i just wanted to make a blog about Ronnie James Dio.
Ronnie James Dio, the most amazing artist. passed away yesterday at 7:45 A.M due to complications with his stomach cancer. he was 67.
you will be missed dio ! :(
the captain

I must say it doesn't take much for my blood to get boiling.
This morning I have been rather ill, I'm supposed to be at uni and my husband walks into the bedroom and starts asking me about breakfast.
After some confusion I realise he didn't make the porridge I wanted. Bad idea.
Two of my cats come running into the bedroom, jumping on the bed in a seemingly innocent cat-and-mouse game. They mess up the blankets. Bad idea.
I go outside to clean out the water for our ducks and realise the hose has holes in it because my husband left it on the driveway. He ran over the hose, which wouldn't normally be a bad thing except the hose was frozen. It sprung a leak. I get up and get soaked in freezing morning weather because the leaks were pointed at me when I turned the tap on. Bad idea.
After cleaning and drying our lounge room curtains, we realise one of our cats has soiled them after they'd been back on the rung for half an hour. Bad idea.
I blame it on the red hair, mostly because that's what people expect. I'm also an Aries, and while I'm skeptical about the whole Astrology thing I can honestly say I am a prime Arian. So I blame it on that too.
My brother (not a redhead) told me to take anger management courses. I threw a clothes rack at him.
I wonder if watching the movie counts.

hello to all who enter the captains quarters.
this is a place to talk about anything really, from music to school to work , life in itself.
a place to get your voice heard i guess, debate over issues concerning redheads, is the term \"ginger\" a derogatory
word and name towards us? give me your opinion.
i\'ll try to update this blog as regular as possible, whether people come to it or not. i\'ll add links to websites with cool or wierd things that interest me and may or may not interest you. i don\'t think i should have to say this, but i will point it out anyways. please keep the swearing to a minimal, no trolling yadda yadda yadda, i\'m sure you the person(s) reading this are good enough to know the rules of a blog lol

9 Alignments test
You Are:
Chaotic Neutral
Chaotic Neutral- A chaotic neutral character follows his whims. He is an individualist first and last. He values his own liberty but doesn't strive to protect others' freedom. He avoids authority, resents restrictions, and challenges traditions. A chaotic neutral character does not intentionally disrupt organizations as part of a campaign of anarchy. To do so, he would have to be motivated either by good (and a desire to liberate others) or evil (and a desire to make those different from himself suffer). A chaotic neutral character may be unpredictable, but his behavior is not totally random. He is not as likely to jump off a bridge as to cross it. Chaotic neutral is the best alignment you can be because it represents true freedom from both society's restrictions and a do-gooder's zeal. However, chaotic neutral can be a dangerous alignment because it seeks to eliminate all authority, harmony, and order in society.

TMZ's website is boasting a $250 top prize as well as "some secret mystery gifts" for winners of a redhead photo contest.
TMZ's Ravishing Redhead Contest
Unfortunately the site is a little low on details. It was posted last Wednesday, March 24, 2010 and I heard that they have contests like this weekly. So when is the deadline? Wednesday, March 31? Friday? Later? We just don't know.
Also, in photography circles of late, there has been criticism of how many rights are handed over in photography contests. Some photography sites track such contests and provide warnings for potential entrants. The sparse rules, seem to be on the level, but I'm not an expert. "You acknowledge you own all rights to the photograph and you hereby grant to TMZ the royalty-free and non-exclusive right to use your photograph(s) for any purpose and in any media, including without limitation, on the TMZ.com website and on the TMZ television program." This isn't much different than what you agree to on Facebook, YouTube, or Redhead World; you keep all rights, but grant them rights to display winners in their media and shows, as well as promotions. They also insist you and anyone in the photo has given consent for this usage.
To enter the contest, you just click on the graphic on TMZ's site and it will launch your local e-mail application. You attach the photos and provide your name and phone number. There seems to be no geographic limits either, but maybe that's covered under the TMZ website's terms? It is rather surprising at the lack of legal wording.
So, are any of you redheads going to be entering the contest?

I don't want anyone to get too excited, but if I can get my unreliable friend to take me (in his car - what?! it's faster!) to Leeds on 10th April....
(unlikely because it's a Saturday, even though he has all spring vacation to see his girlfriend.... but still)
....then I may be going representing this site on the day
. I hope customs pass my stuff through soon though, I'm gonna start questioning it if they don't by the 6th (March. Yes it has been a month since I ordered believe it or not).

My little advertising site: redhead-world.piczo.com, has had 78 visits from when it was first made. This is a good free advertising site, but it needs 6,300 visits to become fully established as an advert. Each visitor can only give it one (acknowledged) visit per day so it looks like this could take a while. However, it is nearly on it's way to power member so:

The term 'hazel' means:
1. light reddish-brown or yellowish-brown
2. greenish-gray or greenish-brown, often with flecks of a third color: said of eyes.
Being partially colour-blind, I have no chance when it comes to mixed colours. I have no idea what the difference is between dark blonde and light brown. I don't know what green-blue really is. Pink and orange look very similar. I no longer see red as red, more as orange.
(The colours I put above are from a mad-guess. Or from good knowledge of the colour spectrum, probably from the days I could see colour. Aka; before 13 years old.)
Hmm. I thought hazel was classified as light brown. With no mix. Apparently green-hazel is the colour involving a mixture of greens and browns. Since hazel is the colour derived from the word (and object) the hazelnut, many think it ridiculous that it could involve blue hues. However, since the invention of amber as a category, maybe the eye colour classification has changed.
I've always wanted to know what colour mine are. Many confuse naturally coexisting brown and green in green-hazel to be heterochromia. Again, brown in a blue iris is confused as hazel. Mine are blue-grey with brown central heterochromia, leading to green-ish eyes if it isn't a sunny day.
What is classified as hazel?

or this:

Classed as 'pure hazel' the colour of a hazelnut, I suppose:
This is more or less the same as mine (my eye wouldn't appear/be linked to, so I found a picture alike to it):

When is Hug a Ginger Day? Ginger Awareness Day?
Redhead Counter-movement is Passionate but not Unified
In my past blog, I noted how despite growing redhead movements and events, the worldwide community of redheads is still quite scattered. Word has barely gotten around about a new redhead scholarship. Roodharigendag / Redhead Day in the Netherlands has attracted thousands of redheads from countries around the globe, but your average redhead on the street probably hasn't heard of it - depite media coverage. And those few who are familiar with Roodharigendag probably have not heard of previous redhead festivals in Russia or elsewhere. I was even surprised myself by finding remarks of redhead conventions as far back as the 80's.
Recent blogs and passionte comment threads on the Gingerism blog demonstrate there are many differing opinions on even what gingerism or "redism" is. Is it racism? Is "ginger" itself a deragatory word? There's apparently quite a bit to discuss in that regard, but I'll save that for another article. I want to focus on simply bringing together all redheads to the same table first.
Redhead World has been hit by search queries asking "when is 'Hug a Ginger Day' 2010"? Sadly, we've gotten queries still searching for "when is 'Kick a Ginger Day'"? If you're not already familiar with "Kick a Ginger Day," it's a day originating in Canada on a Facebook group in 2008 (). November 20 was picked as a day to kick anyone with red hair. The inspiration comes from the "Ginger Kids" episode of "South Park" by completely ignoring the very moral the episode teaches. A brave redhead took over the Facebook group and converted it to "Hug a Ginger Day," a day to celebrate people with ginger hair, rather than kick them.
Universal Multiversal Hug a Ginger Day - November 20
The as discussed in the previous Hug a Ginger Day blog took over the November 20 day in a straightforward way. It seemed a good way to turn a negative into a positive, and the group gained over 1,500 members. There was also significant media coverage in 2009 after the beatings, arrests, and harassment that took place that day. Redhead World reported on it as well.
Facebook Group
Hug a Ginger Day - December 8 (2009)
Violence spread on the 2nd annual Kick a Ginger Day in 2009, particularly the more severe redhead beatings in Calabasas, California where arrests were made. Clearly, some did not get the message of the day being overtaken by Hug a Ginger Day. So another Calabasas high school senior, Andrew Cohen, created a Hug a Ginger Day on December 8 with a Facebook event gaining over 3,000 attendees (the event has since expired). This event got a lot more publicity following the violence, and gave a breather for redheads and supporters needing to regroup after November 20.

National Ginger Awareness Day - February 22 (Scotland - U.K.)
As I was researching the news on what I thought were the top two contenders for Hug a Ginger Day, I found one from the U.K. - National Ginger Awareness Day on February 22. Ginger Awareness Day has even made it to Urban Dictionary, with only a little support. The origins of this day are a little murky though.
Facebook Group
Facebook Events
Other Contenders
There's a couple of bloggers who have or . There's also a small parade of YouTube videos of students celebrating Hug a Ginger Day on several other days in December 2009 and January 2010. This all goes to show a day or two need to be picked to focus our efforts.
Redhead Festivals as Redhead Awareness Day?
The big redhead festivals can't be forgotten in a discussion of redhead awareness days. After all, the biggest to date, Roodharigendag, means "Redhead Day" in English and showcases a lot of redhead love. This gathering having grown to 2,000+ redheads per year from the first celebration of the first weekend in September started in 2005. Then there is the other September of the Udmurt people of Russia, "Рыжий фестиваль" - the "Red Festival" or "Redhead Festival." The annual festival in Izhevsk has been held since 2004 among the ethnic group who may counter the Scots' claim of "most redheaded people in the world."
But these festivals are perhaps left best as big celebrations of redheadedness. Roodharigendag is a weekend festival too, and school students - who are feeling the brunt of Kick a Ginger Day - can't raise awareness on a non-school day. Though Roodharigendag has reportedly been listed on some calendars in the Netherlands, so maybe the Friday before or Monday after could be celebrated in school?
When is Hug a Ginger Day 2010?
So with 2010 already well under way, I think the redhead community needs to decide on a day. Perhaps each country will have their own day to focus on, but the events of Kick a Ginger Day were felt beyond Canada and the U.S. in 2009, so an international day might be observed. In terms of raw media coverage and Facebook support, it would appear December 8 has the largest following already. As I can't follow non-English sources as closely, do you know of any other redhead awareness days? What do you think should be the day?

The legendary Redhead Scholarship for red hair is not a myth - at least not anymore.
There are a few things I do find frustrating. One is the fragmentation of the redhead community worldwide, but that's getting better everyday through big-name events, redhead days and festivals, and media coverage. Another is urban myths, especially ones that can be harmful. Fortunately, some redheads of the online community will help bust some redhead myths in late January.
The Former Myth
One persistant urban myth or urban legend over the years has been the elusive "redhead scholarship" or "scholarship for people with red hair." Oh, you could scour the search engines. All you would find is a bunch of redheads asking, "where is the redhead scholarhip?" That question has gone all over Yahoo Answers. There's blogs and forums full of comments and conjecture. Some people proposed that the myth was grounded somewhat in reality; that people referred to scholarships where the surname was "Redhead" (and indeed there are such scholarships). A formerly prominent redhead social network even says in their FAQ that a red hair scholarship is a myth.
The Hunt
So as I came across an article and newscast clip with the sensational title "Redheads, air guitarists can find college scholarships in Colorado" I was mixed between hope and frustration. The scholarships mentioned, such as left-handed people and air guitarists, are very easy to find, but no where did they say where the redhead scholarship was. I checked the site that the news centers on, www.collegeincolorado.org, and searched for anything red-related I could think of. Nothing.
A letter soon followed to their PR department, perhaps heaping it on a bit with "in an age of growing gingerism" that jerking around redheads for media sensationalism is not good, though "I'd be tickled to be proved wrong" about a redhead scholarship. Well, I commend the College in Colorado site's PR head for getting back to me (and promptly at that). Though they did not know where the redhead scholarship was either, they did provide additional help in searching their database and another example of a left-handed scholarship. They also referred to the news station, as it is the reporter that mentions "redhead" and not the CiC member in the interview. Still no redhead scholarship in their database though. Perhaps there could have been one in years past, but as they say on Wikipedia, "citation needed" or in other words "show me the money."
It charged me up though. I felt ready for another go. I had a bit more failure at Google-fu. But I remembered my rule, when Google-fu fails - use Yahoo-fu, because Yahoo will index even the most obscure pages on the internet. A few searches and pages on this latest attempt at Yahoo and I found that blue hyperlink that almost glowed.
The Redhead Scholarship
So after all of this fiasco, it comes as no wonder that I was greeted by these words by the author and scholarship creator on the site:
"There are scholarships out there for everyone! There are even scholarships for Redheads and left handed people!". Well, with hope instilled in me by the scholarship authorities, I scoured the internet in search of the infamous Redhead Scholarship. Well guess what? My high school days are over and I have yet to find this scholarship. I even tried to find to find loopholes in the minority scholarships.
Being similarly hacked off about the situation and full of redhead love and ginger well-being, the creator decided to go and make their own redhead scholarship.
Redhead Scholarship Website
Requirements: The requirements are pretty simple. You must be a junior or senior in high school in the United States. Grades above 2.0 are acceptable, but there will be some focus on academic standing. There are two main criteria. You must submit two photos proving you are a natural redhead. The most important criteria is to submit something describing what being a redhead means to you - "academic essay, drawing, or YouTube video." This component is anything goes and creativity and redheadedness are the important things.
Amount: $250
Deadline: March 31, 2010
Winner Notified: May 1, 2010
So give it a go all U.S. high schoolers and please spread the word to any redheads you know or parents of redheads! We'll make this a hard choice to make.

CelticCurls Author's Note: This is a timely Halloween repeat of a blog from May on another site. I'm already researching another fun one and hope to make "Redhead You Didn't Know" a semi-regular feature.
Have you ever heard of this redhead? She was born in 1951 and still looks remarkable in the recent photo shown below. She holds the Guinness Book of World Record's title for youngest show-girl ever in Las Vegas, starting that job days after graduation in 1969. She makes two small appearances as a redhead showgirl in James Bond 007 movie, Diamonds are Forever. She even was part of an Italian band and had a small role in film. Elvis dated her for awhile!
But...do you really know who this fabulous redhead is?? (scroll down for the answer)

That's right! None other than Elvira, Mistress of the Dark!
The campy, valley-girl/goth-influencing woman with the quick-sarcastic wit, hosting awful B-films from her red Victorian couch during the 1980's. Her Los Angeles-based show became syndicated nationwide in the U.S., with tons of talk show appearances, and even a few movies. She's the one who's become a sort of unofficial hostess of all things horror and halloween.
Couldn't wait until Halloween to share this with all of you - I never would have guessed, but in retrospect, it all makes sense.
